WHY TALK TO A BUILDING? Alice Cotton, Oregon architectural artist/author, spent a year illustrating and communicating with a selection of Oregon's most important historical buildings, now featured in her new book, When Buildings Speak. Through this process, Alice has become an expert in historical architectural art and ornament. Alice is offering classes to adult students through colleges and private organizations that will take students on a journey through some of Oregon's most fascinating historical buildings. She uses the pictures from her book, When Buildings Speak, to show the progression of architectural styles throughout history and to teach basic architectural terms and concepts. Alice says, "When buildings speak, things are not always as they seem. Their stories are full of surprises." For younger students Alice incorporates interdisciplinary projects using her expertise in architecture, art, history, and mathematics. Using ideas that are challenging and engaging, students learn to create beautiful works of art using mathematical and architectural structures. (See Student Art and Free Stuff). Her projects have been proven highly successful in meeting art and academic curriculum requirements. Educational Programs that Alice is currently involved in (Click on
